It still surprises me
When seasons prepare to depart.
It is always a passage
Which comes inevitably
When I am not looking!
Not that I am unaware -
The tell-tale leaves are everywhere!
Yet in my heart I yearn to stay
Here in summer -
It is the warmth within
Which carries me into fall.
Fall is not as positive
It denotes endings .
Autumn, as a word, sounds brighter
Filled with wondrously lit days
Until a sneaky chill
Reminds me of winter days to come.
The change is subtle and predictable
For us here in temperate climes
It is always a passage
Inevitably beautiful each time it occurs!
